Diane Blevins Posted June 9, 2008 Report Share Posted June 9, 2008 Proceedings of the Board of Trustees District No. 2, Yellowstone County High School District No. 2, Yellowstone County Billings, Montana June 2, 2008 CALL TO ORDER The Agenda Setting Meeting of the Board of Trustees of School District No. 2, Yellowstone County, Montana, and High School District, Yellowstone County, Montana, was duly held at The Lincoln Center, 415 North 30th Street, Billings, Montana, June 2, 2008, at 12:00 p.m. Members present included Trustees Katharin Kelker, Joel Guthals, Sandra Mossman, Superintendent Copps, District Clerk Leo Hudetz, Thomas Harper, Dave Williams, Nancy Hines, Kathy Olson, and Rich Whitney. The Chair asked about the Cottonwood property. Mr. Hudetz reported Jeff Weldon, legal counsel, has been meeting with the City about purchasing the land. Superintendent Copps reported the architects would give a presentation at the June 16th meeting on Broadwater and McKinley. There is also a Board retreat scheduled for either June 23rd or June 30th. Trustee Guthals stated he would like to give a brief report on the Montana School Board Association. Mr. Copps reported, if a $30,000,000 bond were passed, McKinley, Highland and Broadwater could be renovated, as well as an elementary school built on the Cottonwood property. Trustee Guthals asked for the numbers to renovate Rimrock to a capacity of 400 students. The Chair reported the renovations would be discussed at the Board retreat. She further reported discussions should be held on engaging the community, long-range plans, and committee structure. Thomas Harper reported the Budgeting for Results Committee will have the second reading of the energy policy with the Board approving on the third reading. Also, for the agenda on June 16th, would be transportation and tuition rates. The Chair did not believe that the negotiations with the MPEA and BCEA units would be finished by June 16th. Trustee Guthals stated he did not see all of the changes in the BEA contract in the agenda. It will be reviewed and corrected for the meeting. Mr. Copps said that the BEA contract says that teachers will be paid for moving to another school. A motion will also be needed to hire back all of the pink-slipped teachers. The Chair stated Jeff Weldon would be consulted for the language for moving teachers and compensation.
