June 13, 2005

 

Call to Order

 

The Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees of School District No. 2, Yellowstone County, Montana, and High School District, Yellowstone County, Montana, was duly held at The Lincoln Center, 415 North 30th Street, Billings, Montana, June 13, 2005, at 5:15 p.m.

 

Those present included: Superintendent Rod Svee, Katharin Kelker, Joel Guthals, Sandra Mossman, Conrad Stroebe, Clerk Leo Hudetz, Malcolm Goodrich, Dale Getz, Dawn Achten and Karen Moses.

 

Communication from the Public

 

The Board recognizes the value of public comment on educational issues and the importance of listening to members of the public in its meetings. The Board also recognizes the statutory and constitutional right of the public to participate in governmental operations. The Board encourages members of the public to participate in and express opinions about issues important to the District. This part of the Board’s meeting is dedicated to public comment on any public matter that is not on the agenda of this meeting and is within the jurisdiction of the Board of Trustees. Members of the public may also address particular items on this agenda either now or at the time the Board considers the particular item. There were no public comments.

 

Resolution of Appointment – Position of Elementary Trustee of Single Member District, Zone 3

 

The Chair reported a subcommittee of the Board, chaired by Dale Getz, interviewed the two candidates and brought forward the recommendation. Trustee Getz stated the candidates were both highly qualified for the vacancy. The subcommittee met to develop the criteria and used the questions posted by the Billings Gazette. The recommendation was a result of their evaluation of the candidates’ answers. Clerk Leo Hudetz conducted a background check on Mary Jo Fox and confirmed that she is qualified to fill the vacancy.

 

Trustee Goodrich made the following motion seconded by Trustee Moses:

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to Montana law, whenever a trustee position becomes vacant in any district, the remaining members of the trustees shall declare such position vacant and they shall appoint, in writing within 60 days, a competent person as a successor, and;

 

WHEREAS, the School District No. 2 Board of Trustees has declared the position of Elementary Trustee Single Member District, Zone 3 as vacant on April 18, 2005;

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Mary Jo Fox is hereby duly appointed Elementary Trustee of Single Member District, Zone 3 effective June 13, 2005 and shall serve until the regularly scheduled election May 2, 2005.

 

Move that this appointment is made pursuant to MCA 20-3-309 of Montana Code and School District No. 2 Board Policy 1112.

 

Those voting in favor were Dawn Achten, Dale Getz, Malcolm Goodrich, Joel Guthals, Katharin Kelker, Karen Moses, Sandra Mossman, and Conrad Stroebe. The motion passed unanimously. Chair Katharin Kelker administered the oath of office to Mary Jo Fox.

 

As there was no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
