Budget Amendment to Elementary and High School General Funds for Unforeseen Needs of the District

Business Manager Thomas Harper presented his best estimate in terms of over-budget line items for year-end as follows:

Estimated

Budget Year-End Actual Difference

Elementary General Fund:

Severance 343,695 1,100,000 756,305

Gas 620,000 782,000 162,000

Electricity 645,965 675,000 *20,000 *Impact of one-time funds from State

Special Education 6,516,452 6,591,452 75,000

Total 1,013,305

High School General Fund:

Severance 107,466 425,000 317,534

Gas 405,000 598,773 193,773

Electricity 520,000 570,000 *50,000 *Impact of one-time funds from State

Special Education 3,128,947 3,233,947 105,000

Total 666,307

Severance costs were greater than expected. We had 46 retirements and 18 resignations for year 2006. A normal year would have been about 35. Utility costs were greater than expected due to price and volume increases. Special Education cost increases are associated with summer school and increased services.

The Committee discussed planning and budgeting for severance and reserves.

Joel Guthals moved to recommend the Board proceed with the amendments to the General Funds; the Elementary General Fund budget amendment being $1,013,305 and the High School General Fund budget amendment being $666,307. Katharin Kelker seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.

Adjournment

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:48 p.m.

K. Dale Getz, Chair
