Diane Blevins Posted June 14, 2006 Report Share Posted June 14, 2006 Proceedings of the Board of Trustees District No. 2, Yellowstone County High School District No. 2, Yellowstone County Billings, Montana June 6, 2006 Call to Order The Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees of School District No. 2, Yellowstone County, Montana, and High School District, Yellowstone County, Montana, was duly held at The Lincoln Center, 415 North 30th Street, Billings, Montana, June 6, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. Those present included: Trustees Malcolm Goodrich, Dale Getz, Mary Jo Fox, Joel Guthals, Dawn Achten, Superintendent Rod Svee, Interim Superintendent Jack Copps, and District Clerk Leo Hudetz. Judy Johnson, Katharin Kelker, Sandra Mossman and Rachel Stagg were absent. Communication from the Public The Board recognizes the value of public comment on educational issues and the importance of listening to members of the public in its meetings. The Board also recognizes the statutory and constitutional right of the public to participate in governmental operations. The Board encourages members of the public to participate in and express opinions about issues important to the District. This part of the Board’s meeting is dedicated to public comment on any public matter that is not on the agenda of this meeting and is within the jurisdiction of the Board of Trustees. Members of the public may also address particular items on this agenda either now or at the time the Board considers the particular item. There were no public comments. Authorize Hiring Personnel at the High School (9-12) Level; Authorize Hiring Personnel at the Middle School (7-8) Level Interim Superintendent Jack Copps stated he was asking for the authority to fill positions at the 7-8 and 9-12 levels. Interviews have been conducted and candidates need to be notified as soon as possible. Mr. Copps stated the request complies with the expectations in the budget process and the cuts that have occurred. There are approximately 12 positions that need to be filled. Trustee Guthals asked about the sale of the Crossroads building. He suggested a deed be developed between the elementary and high school districts to benefit both district’s reserve funds. Superintendent Svee report the appraisal has not been completed at this date. The property also needs to be subdivided which could be the responsibility of the proposed buyer. Trustee Getz asked how many of the Crossroads teachers were not placed. There were four non-tenured teachers that were not placed. Trustee Getz made the following motion with a second by Trustee Achten: Motion to grant the administration the authority to fill the vacancy positions as outlined in this meeting for middle school levels, grades 7 & 8. Those voting in favor were Malcolm Goodrich, Dale Getz, Dawn Achten, and Mary Jo Fox. The motion passed unanimously. Trustee Guthals is ineligible to vote on elementary issues. Trustee Getz made the following motion with a second by Trustee Achten: Motion to grant the administration the authority to fill the vacancy positions as outlined in this meeting for the high school levels, grades 9 through 12. Those voting in favor were Malcolm Goodrich, Dale Getz, Dawn Achten, Joel Guthals, and Mary Jo Fox. The motion passed unanimously.
